Portarlington-based Fianna Fáil Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick said he wants Offaly County Council’s road section to take action at Garryhinch Cross, Portarlington due to a number of traffic accidents in recent months. He pointed out that measures are needed on the busy junction on the Laois Offaly border between Mountmellick and Portarlington because of the risk of a road death.
The junction in question is located on the main Mountmellick to Portarlington R423 road.
Cllr Fitzpatrick said he has met with one of the roads engineers from the Edenderry Municipal area and he said he outlined to him the danger and the possibility of a fatality or serious injury to motorists and pedestrians at the busy junction if more traffic calming measures are not put in place to alert motorist to the danger. He said he wants more markings and signs at the junction to warn motorists about the hazard.
